It also came to be the first musical to exceed 10,000 performances in 2012. The recipient of several awards including the Laurence Olivier Award and Tony Award, it is the longest-running show in the history of Broadway. It first premiered in Her Majesty’s Theatre, London, in 1986 and in Majestic Theatre, Broadway, New York in 1988.
